Ibanez built the SR650EABS as part of the SR (Soundgear) Series, positioning it in the upper tier of the line with a passive pickup configuration and active EQ electronics. The model carried an Antique Brown Stained finish and centred its specification around the combination of an ash body with a five-piece Jatoba/Walnut neck — a pairing Ibanez used in the SR range to balance resonance and rigidity.
The neck runs to 24 medium frets on a Jatoba fretboard with abalone oval inlays, a 38mm plastic nut, and a 34-inch / 864mm scale. Neck dimensions measure 19.5mm thick at the first fret and 21.5mm at the twelfth, with a 305mm radius and a 62mm width at the twenty-fourth fret. String spacing at the Accu-cast B500 bridge is 19mm. Pickups are a Nordstrand CND P at the neck and a Nordstrand CND J at the bridge, both passive, feeding an Ibanez Custom Electronics 3-band EQ with an EQ bypass switch — passive tone control on the treble pot — and a 3-way mid-frequency switch. Hardware throughout is finished in black. The bass left the factory strung with D'Addario EXL165 strings (.045/.065/.085/.105) in standard E–A–D–G tuning.
