Description

Ibanez built the SR506EBM as a six-string entry in its long-running SR (Soundgear) Series, positioning the instrument toward players requiring extended range without the bulk associated with traditional bass designs. The SR line was characterised by its slim, lightweight profile and fast neck geometry, and the SR506EBM continued that approach in a passive-pickup configuration paired with active EQ.

The body is carved from Okoume, paired with a five-piece Jatoba/Walnut SR6 neck. The Jatoba fretboard carries abalone oval inlays across 24 medium frets, with a 400mm radius and a 34-inch (864mm) scale. Nut width measures 54mm, widening to 83mm at the 24th fret; neck thickness runs 19.5mm at the first fret and 21.5mm at the twelfth. String spacing at the bridge is 16.5mm. Electronics consist of a pair of passive Bartolini BH2 pickups — one at the neck, one at the bridge — routed through an Ibanez Custom Electronics 3-band EQ with an EQ bypass switch, a passive tone control on the treble pot, and a 3-way mid-frequency switch. The Accu-cast B506 bridge and all hardware are finished in black. The instrument left the factory strung with D'Addario EXL165 strings gauged .032/.045/.065/.085/.105/.130, tuned B–E–A–D–G–C low to high.

Owners sourcing replacement parts — including Bartolini BH2-format pickups, Accu-cast B506 bridge components, or a standard plastic nut cut to 54mm — should consult a qualified luthier or bass technician for fitting and setup guidance.

The owner archive

From the people who own them

Nothing in The Vault is for sale. These records exist so the instruments stay documented after the manufacturer moves on — and the most useful part of that record is what owners add to it.

Put yours on the record.

The catalog shot showed one finish, under one light, a long time ago. Yours has been played. Photos from owners are what the next person finds when they are trying to identify a part, match a finish, or work out whether the one they just bought is really what the seller said it was.

What do you know about this one?

Specs only go so far. What actually fits, what breaks first, what the factory got right and what everyone ends up changing — that lives with the people who own them, not in a datasheet. Post what you know and it stays on this page for whoever comes looking next.
