Ibanez built the SR505EBM as a five-string entry in the SR (Soundgear) Series, positioning it toward players who required an extended lower register within a lightweight, slim-profile platform. The SR line was characterised by its emphasis on fast playability and reduced body mass relative to conventional bass designs.
The SR505EBM is constructed with an Okoume body and a five-piece Jatoba/Walnut neck — a laminated configuration chosen for rigidity and stability across the 864 mm (34-inch) scale. The Jatoba fretboard carries abalone oval inlays and 24 medium frets, with a 305 mm radius and a nut width of 45 mm tapering to 68 mm at the 24th fret. Neck thickness measures 19.5 mm at the first fret and 21.5 mm at the twelfth. String spacing at the Accu-cast B505 bridge is 16.5 mm. Passive Bartolini BH2 pickups sit at neck and bridge positions, feeding into Ibanez's own Custom Electronics 3-band EQ, which includes an EQ bypass switch with passive tone control on the treble pot and a 3-way mid-frequency switch — allowing the instrument to operate in either active or fully passive mode. Hardware throughout is finished in black. The instrument left the factory strung with D'Addario EXL165 strings plus a .130 low-B, gauged .045/.065/.085/.105/.130, tuned 1G, 2D, 3A, 4E, 5B.
Owners requiring setup adjustments, fretwork, or guidance on sourcing compatible replacement parts — particularly for the Accu-cast B505 bridge or Bartolini BH2 pickups — should consult a qualified guitar technician or luthier experienced with multi-string bass instruments.
STRAIGHT TALK
What Stands Out
Keep In Mind
From the people who own them
Nothing in The Vault is for sale. These records exist so the instruments stay documented after the manufacturer moves on — and the most useful part of that record is what owners add to it.
Owner photos
Put yours on the record.
The catalog shot showed one finish, under one light, a long time ago. Yours has been played. Photos from owners are what the next person finds when they are trying to identify a part, match a finish, or work out whether the one they just bought is really what the seller said it was.
What do you know about this one?
Specs only go so far. What actually fits, what breaks first, what the factory got right and what everyone ends up changing — that lives with the people who own them, not in a datasheet. Post what you know and it stays on this page for whoever comes looking next.
