Ibanez built the SR505ELBM as part of the SR Series, a long-running line of bass guitars positioned around playability and active electronics in a multi-string format. The five-string configuration and passive Bartolini pickups paired with an active preamp placed it toward the upper reaches of the SR range, aimed at players requiring extended lower-register reach without sacrificing the slim neck profile the SR Series was known for.
The body is Okoume, paired with a five-piece Jatoba/Walnut neck — a laminated construction chosen for stability across the added tension of a five-string setup. The Jatoba fretboard carries abalone oval inlays across 24 medium frets at a 305mm radius. Nut width is 54mm, tapering to 68mm at the 24th fret, with neck thickness measuring 19.5mm at the first fret and 21.5mm at the twelfth. Scale length is 864mm (34 inches). The Accu-cast B505 bridge is set to a 16.5mm string spacing. Both pickups are Bartolini BH2 passive units; the Ibanez Custom Electronics 3-band EQ with EQ bypass switch, passive tone control on the treble pot, and 3-way mid-frequency switch handles all active shaping. Hardware is finished in black throughout. The nut is plastic. Factory tuning runs 1G, 2D, 3A, 4E, 5B, and the instrument shipped strung with D'Addario EXL165 plus a .130 B string at gauges .045/.065/.085/.105/.130.
Owners sourcing a replacement bridge, nut, or pickup should verify dimensions against the specifications above before ordering; a qualified guitar technician or luthier can confirm fit and carry out any setup work.
STRAIGHT TALK
What Stands Out
Keep In Mind
From the people who own them
Nothing in The Vault is for sale. These records exist so the instruments stay documented after the manufacturer moves on — and the most useful part of that record is what owners add to it.
Owner photos
Put yours on the record.
The catalog shot showed one finish, under one light, a long time ago. Yours has been played. Photos from owners are what the next person finds when they are trying to identify a part, match a finish, or work out whether the one they just bought is really what the seller said it was.
What do you know about this one?
Specs only go so far. What actually fits, what breaks first, what the factory got right and what everyone ends up changing — that lives with the people who own them, not in a datasheet. Post what you know and it stays on this page for whoever comes looking next.
