Ibanez built the SR300E as part of the long-running SR (Soundgear) Series, positioning it as a mid-tier, full-scale electric bass within a line long associated with slim, fast-playing necks and active electronics. The Iron Pewter finish variant carried the designation SR300EIPT.
The bass was constructed with a Nyatoh body and a five-piece Maple/Walnut neck — the SR4 profile — joined to a Jatoba fretboard with white dot inlays and medium frets. The nut width measures 38mm, widening to 62mm at the 24th fret, with a neck thickness of 19.5mm at the first fret and 21.5mm at the 12th, over a 305mm radius. The 34-inch scale (864mm) runs to an Accu-cast B120 bridge with 19mm string spacing. Passive PowerSpan Dual Coil pickups sit at both the neck and bridge positions, feeding into Ibanez's own Custom Electronics 3-band EQ equipped with a 3-way Power Tap switch — a circuit that allowed the player to select between pickup coil configurations. All hardware was finished in Cosmo black.
