Ibanez produced the GSR105EXBK as a five-string entry in the GSR sub-line of the broader SR Series, positioned as an accessible electric bass aimed at players stepping into extended-range instruments. The GSR designation placed it in the more approachable tier of the SR family, retaining the series' emphasis on a slim, fast neck profile while keeping the specification set straightforward.
The bass was built around a poplar body paired with a maple neck carrying a jatoba fretboard with white dot inlays and medium frets. A 34-inch scale — 864mm — underpinned the low-B string's tension and definition. The nut width measured 45mm, widening to 67mm at the 22nd fret, with neck thickness running 21mm at the first fret and 22mm at the twelfth; the 305mm radius fretboard kept the playing surface relatively flat across those five strings. String spacing at the B15 bridge was set at 16.5mm. A passive PPD5 pickup handled the bridge position, and all hardware was finished in chrome. The finish on this variant was black.
