Ibanez positioned the SR1340BDWF within the SR Premium Series, a tier of the long-running SR (Soundgear) bass line built to offer professional-level construction and components at a step below the flagship Prestige range. The SR1340BDWF was a four-string electric bass finished in Dual Shadow Burst Flat.
The neck was an Atlas-4 five-piece construction combining Panga Panga and Purpleheart with KTS Titanium reinforcement rods. The body paired an African Mahogany core with a Panga Panga top, and the bound Panga Panga fretboard carried abalone oval inlays across 24 medium frets with Premium fret edge treatment. A Graph Tech BLACK TUSQ XL nut sat at 38mm width. Electronics centred on a pair of passive Nordstrand Big Single pickups — one at the neck, one at the bridge — routed through Ibanez Custom Electronics 3-band EQ with an EQ bypass switch, a passive tone control on the treble pot, and a 3-way mid-frequency switch. The MR5S bridge offered 19mm string spacing. All hardware was finished in black. The bass left the factory strung with D'Addario EXL165 strings (.045/.065/.085/.105) at standard E–A–D–G tuning across a 34-inch scale.
Owners sourcing replacement components — particularly the Nordstrand Big Single pickups, Graph Tech BLACK TUSQ XL nut, or MR5S bridge saddles — should verify fit against the neck dimensions and string spacing noted in the existing specs. A qualified guitar technician or luthier can assist with setup, nut replacement, and electronics work on this instrument.
STRAIGHT TALK
What Stands Out
Keep In Mind
From the people who own them
Nothing in The Vault is for sale. These records exist so the instruments stay documented after the manufacturer moves on — and the most useful part of that record is what owners add to it.
Owner photos
Put yours on the record.
The catalog shot showed one finish, under one light, a long time ago. Yours has been played. Photos from owners are what the next person finds when they are trying to identify a part, match a finish, or work out whether the one they just bought is really what the seller said it was.
What do you know about this one?
Specs only go so far. What actually fits, what breaks first, what the factory got right and what everyone ends up changing — that lives with the people who own them, not in a datasheet. Post what you know and it stays on this page for whoever comes looking next.
