Ibanez built the GWB205TQF as part of the GWB Signature Series, a line of fretless electric basses developed in association with the series' namesake artist. The five-string configuration and dedicated pickup and preamp selection placed it toward the more specified end of that series, targeting players who required extended low-end range alongside the tonal flexibility of a fretless instrument.
The GWB205TQF was constructed on an ash body paired with a three-piece maple neck designated the GWB profile. The ebony fretboard carried off-set white dot inlays and was finished without frets, with a 305mm radius and a nut width of 45mm widening to 68mm at the 24th position. Neck thickness measured 19mm at the first position and 21mm at the twelfth. String spacing at the bridge was 16.5mm across a standard bridge finished in black hardware. Electronics comprised a passive Bartolini GWB bridge pickup feeding a Bartolini NTBT 2-band EQ. The instrument left the factory strung with D'Addario EXP165-5 strings gauged .045/.065/.085/.105/.135 in standard five-string tuning B–E–A–D–G, across a 34-inch scale.
