Ibanez produced the K5BKF as part of the K5 Signature Series, a five-string electric bass built around an artist collaboration. It sat within Ibanez's signature instrument line, positioned as a performance-oriented instrument distinguished by its active electronics and extended lower register via the fifth string.
The bass was constructed with a Nyatoh body and a five-piece Maple/Walnut neck, the latter terminating at a Jatoba fretboard fitted with K5 special inlays and 24 medium frets. The 34-inch scale runs to a plastic nut measuring 45mm wide, widening to 67mm at the 24th fret, with neck thickness of 19.5mm at the first fret and 21.5mm at the twelfth; the fretboard carries a 305mm radius. String spacing at the EB-7 bridge is 16.5mm. Electronics consist of an IBZ ADX5N active neck pickup and IBZ ADX5B active bridge pickup, governed by a Vari-mid 3-band EQ. All hardware is finished in black. The instrument shipped strung with D'Addario EXL165 plus a .130 fifth string, gauged .045/.065/.085/.105/.130, and left the factory tuned B–E–A–D–G (low to high).
Owners sourcing replacement components — bridge saddles compatible with 16.5mm spacing, active preamp parts, or a replacement nut to the 45mm specification — are advised to consult a qualified luthier or bass technician for fitting and setup guidance.
STRAIGHT TALK
What Stands Out
Keep In Mind
From the people who own them
Nothing in The Vault is for sale. These records exist so the instruments stay documented after the manufacturer moves on — and the most useful part of that record is what owners add to it.
Owner photos
Put yours on the record.
The catalog shot showed one finish, under one light, a long time ago. Yours has been played. Photos from owners are what the next person finds when they are trying to identify a part, match a finish, or work out whether the one they just bought is really what the seller said it was.
What do you know about this one?
Specs only go so far. What actually fits, what breaks first, what the factory got right and what everyone ends up changing — that lives with the people who own them, not in a datasheet. Post what you know and it stays on this page for whoever comes looking next.
