Ibanez built the AEG1812IIDVS as part of its AEG Series, a line of acoustic-electric guitars designed around a thinline body format. The model was a 12-string configuration, positioning it for players who required the fuller, chorus-like voice of a 12-string within the AEG platform. The Dark Violin Sunburst high gloss finish was the defining cosmetic of this variant.
The body combined a spruce top with sapele back and sides. The okoume neck carried a purpleheart fretboard and matching purpleheart bridge, with white dot inlays and an abalone soundhole rosette. The nut measured 45mm wide, the fretboard radius was 250mm, and 21 frets were fitted across a 634mm scale length. Hardware included chrome die-cast tuners with half-moon knobs, plastic nut and saddle, and Ibanez Advantage bridge pins. Electronics consisted of a Fishman Sonicore pickup paired with Ibanez's AEQ-SP2 preamp with onboard tuner; the output section offered both a balanced XLR and a standard 1/4" jack. The guitar shipped strung with Ibanez IACS12C strings in a gauging appropriate to 12-string configuration, with 11mm string spacing at the bridge.
Owners seeking replacement parts — including the purpleheart bridge, Fishman Sonicore pickup components, or AEQ-SP2 preamp units — or requiring setup work on the 12-string nut and saddle should consult a qualified guitar technician familiar with 12-string acoustic-electric instruments.
STRAIGHT TALK
What Stands Out
Keep In Mind
From the people who own them
Nothing in The Vault is for sale. These records exist so the instruments stay documented after the manufacturer moves on — and the most useful part of that record is what owners add to it.
Owner photos
Put yours on the record.
The catalog shot showed one finish, under one light, a long time ago. Yours has been played. Photos from owners are what the next person finds when they are trying to identify a part, match a finish, or work out whether the one they just bought is really what the seller said it was.
What do you know about this one?
Specs only go so far. What actually fits, what breaks first, what the factory got right and what everyone ends up changing — that lives with the people who own them, not in a datasheet. Post what you know and it stays on this page for whoever comes looking next.
