Washburn built the HF11SCE-O-U as part of its Heritage Series, positioning it as a folk-body cutaway acoustic-electric aimed at fingerpickers and singer-songwriters who required both the articulation of a smaller body and upper-fret access. The cutaway configuration and onboard Fishman electronics extended the instrument's usefulness to amplified performance and studio recording contexts.
The top is solid Western Red Cedar, braced with Washburn's Cathedral Peaked Scalloped-X pattern — a construction the manufacturer associated with tonal improvement over time. Back and sides are mahogany, matched by a satin mahogany neck fitted with a two-way truss rod. The fretboard and bridge are Ovangkol, with dot inlays across 20 frets.
