Washburn built the HD20SCE-O-U as part of its Heritage Series, positioning it as a dreadnought cutaway acoustic-electric aimed at players who require both full-bodied acoustic projection and access to the upper register of the fretboard. The cutaway configuration and onboard Fishman Presys II 301T preamp placed it at the working end of the Heritage line, suited to players moving between stage and studio.
The top is solid Sitka spruce, braced with Washburn's Cathedral Peaked Scalloped-X pattern — a construction the manufacturer associated with tone that develops over time. Pau Ferro was used for both back and sides. The satin mahogany neck carries a two-way truss rod and is fitted with an Ovangkol fretboard and matching Ovangkol bridge; 20 frets are present with dot inlays throughout. The nut is GraphTech NuBone, cut to 1-11/16" width, and the scale runs 25-5/16". Tuning is handled by chrome diecast machines with ebonite buttons. The Washburn Heritage rosette and a tortoise pickguard complete the top. Electronics consist of an under-saddle transducer feeding the Fishman Presys II 301T, which provides volume, bass, mid, and treble controls alongside a phase switch for feedback management and an onboard tuner. Hardware throughout is chrome. Factory strings were D'Addario EXP light-gauge phosphor bronze.
