Washburn built the HF11S-O-U as part of its Heritage Series, positioning it as a folk-body acoustic suited to fingerpicking and singer-songwriter work. The folk-sized body was offered as a smaller alternative to a full dreadnought, with Washburn noting it brought added articulation to the instrument's voice.
The top is solid Western Red Cedar, braced with Washburn's Cathedral Peaked Scalloped-X pattern — a configuration the company cited as contributing to tone that improves with age. Back, sides, and neck are mahogany, with the neck fitted with a two-way truss rod and a satin finish. The fingerboard and bridge are Ovangkol, and the 20-fret board carries dot inlays. Nut duties are handled by a Graphtech Nubone unit at 1-11/16" width. The scale runs 25-5/16". Hardware throughout is chrome, including die-cast tuner machines.
