Washburn built the HD10SCE-O-U as part of its Heritage Series, positioning it as a dreadnought cutaway acoustic-electric aimed at players who needed stage-ready amplification alongside traditional dreadnought acoustics. The cutaway body configuration provides access to the uppermost frets, extending the instrument's range beyond what a standard dreadnought allows.
The top is solid Sitka spruce, braced with Washburn's Cathedral Peaked Scalloped-X pattern — a construction approach intended to develop tone over time. Back, sides, and neck are mahogany, with the neck fitted with a two-way truss rod. The fretboard and bridge are Ovangkol, and the nut is Graphtech Nubone at 1-11/16" width. Scale length is 25-5/16". Twenty frets are present, marked with dot inlays. Tuning is handled by chrome diecast tuners. The instrument ships strung with D'Addario EXP light gauge phosphor bronze strings. Electronics consist of an under-saddle transducer feeding a Fishman Presys II 301T preamp, which provides onboard volume, bass, mid, and treble controls, a phase switch for feedback management, and an integrated chromatic tuner. Hardware throughout is chrome. The finish is natural gloss, and the rosette is the Washburn Heritage pattern.
