Schecter built the P-5 as a five-string bass positioned within their production line and manufactured in Indonesia. The instrument was offered in a 3-Tone Sunburst finish with black hardware, constructed on an alder body using a bolt-on maple neck.
The neck carries a Thin 'C' profile measuring .787" (20mm) at the first fret and .866" (22mm) at the twelfth, topped with a maple fretboard at a 16" (406mm) radius. The 45mm nut width and 35" (889mm) scale length reflect a specification intended for extended low-end range. Twenty-one narrow X-Jumbo frets are installed across the board, with offset/reverse dot inlays for position marking. A Graph Tech XL Ivory Tusq nut seats the strings, and the truss rod is a two-way adjustable unit accessed at the heel via a spoke wheel. Tuning is handled by Schecter Light-Weight tuners. The Schecter High Mass Bass bridge accepts string-through or top-load stringing. The single pickup is a Schecter USA MonsterTone-P™, routed through a straightforward Volume/Tone control layout with metal knurled knobs secured by set screws. Strings fitted at the time of production were Ernie Ball 5 String Super Long #2850 (.045–.130).
