Schecter built the DJ Ashba as a signature model for the guitarist of the same name, positioning it in the electric guitar line as a high-output, Floyd Rose-equipped instrument. It was constructed with a bolt-on neck joint and a flat-top alder body, finished in the satin white graphic shown in this record.
The maple neck carried an ebony fretboard with 22 X-Jumbo frets, a 14" (355mm) radius, and a 25.5" (648mm) scale length. The Thin 'C' profile measured .787" (20mm) at the first fret and .866" (22mm) at the twelfth. A Floyd Rose 1500 Series bridge and matching locking nut provided double-locking tremolo action, with Grover Rotomatic 18:1 tuners at the headstock. The neck position carried a Sustainiac pickup in place of a conventional humbucker; a dedicated 2-way on/off switch and a 3-way mode switch (Fundamental, Mix, Harmonic) governed it, while the bridge position ran an EMG 81. The Sustainiac system drew power from a double 9-volt clip-in battery compartment. Black 1-ply binding, black hardware, Birds on a Wire inlays, and metal knurled knobs with set screws completed the specification.
