Schecter built the Nick Johnston Traditional H/S/S as a signature instrument for the guitarist, positioning it within the Traditional series as a bolt-on, flat-top electric guitar strung for right-handed play. The body was constructed from alder, finished in Atomic Frost with chrome hardware throughout.
The roasted maple neck carried a Thin 'C' profile measuring .787" (20mm) at the first fret and .866" (22mm) at the twelfth, joining the body via a bolt-on construction with heel-access spoke wheel for truss rod adjustment. The ebony fretboard ran a 14" (355mm) radius across 22 X-Jumbo frets, marked with brass circle inlays, and was fitted with a Graph Tech XL Black Tusq nut at 1.653" (42mm) width. The 25.5" (648mm) scale Diamond Vintage Tremolo bridge paired with Schecter Locking tuners. The H/S/S pickup configuration placed a Schecter Diamond '78 humbucker at the bridge alongside two Schecter Diamond Nick Johnston single-coil units at the middle and neck positions, routed through a Volume, Push-Pull Tone control, and 5-way switch. Vintage-style knobs completed the control layout. Strings were factory-fitted with Ernie Ball Regular Slinky (.010–.046).
