Hagstrom developed the Fantomen as a collaboration between its design team and the Swedish band Ghost. The model carried the Swedish word for "The Phantom" and was positioned as an extension of Hagstrom's established build philosophy into a distinctly edgier aesthetic, built around an asymmetrical single-cutaway solid mahogany body joined to a mahogany neck via a mortise-and-tenon set-neck joint.
The neck carries Hagstrom's H-Expander™ truss rod system alongside a Resinator™ fingerboard, a combination the company described as providing playing-surface stability and tonal enhancement. The 25.5" scale runs across 22 medium-jumbo frets with a 15" radius, a Graph Tech™ Black TUSQ XL nut at 43 mm width, and Hagstrom pearl block inlays at the position marks. Pickup duties fall to a Lundgren Design AlNiCo-2 No. 2 humbucker at the neck and a Lundgren Design AlNiCo-5 No. 5 humbucker at the bridge, selected by a 3-way toggle switch. The control layout offers two volume controls with R/C circuit and two tone controls with push-pull coil splitting. The Long Travel Tune-O-Matic bridge is paired with a stoptail, tuning is handled by Hagstrom 18:1 die-cast machines, and the guitar was strung from the factory with D'Addario 10-46s. Multiply body binding completes the trim. Compatible optional cases and bags were listed as the C-47 and E-19 respectively.
Owners seeking setup work, fret service, or guidance on sourcing compatible hardware — including Tune-O-Matic saddles, Graph Tech TUSQ XL nuts, or Lundgren-specification replacement pickups — should consult a qualified guitar technician familiar with set-neck instruments.
STRAIGHT TALK
What Stands Out
Keep In Mind
From the people who own them
Nothing in The Vault is for sale. These records exist so the instruments stay documented after the manufacturer moves on — and the most useful part of that record is what owners add to it.
Owner photos
Put yours on the record.
The catalog shot showed one finish, under one light, a long time ago. Yours has been played. Photos from owners are what the next person finds when they are trying to identify a part, match a finish, or work out whether the one they just bought is really what the seller said it was.
What do you know about this one?
Specs only go so far. What actually fits, what breaks first, what the factory got right and what everyone ends up changing — that lives with the people who own them, not in a datasheet. Post what you know and it stays on this page for whoever comes looking next.
