Hagstrom built the Metropolis-S as a single-cut electric guitar fitted with a bolt-on neck — a hybrid configuration that sat as a distinctive entry in the Hagstrom line. The body was constructed from Empress wood, noted in the source material as resonant and lightweight.
The neck is Hard Maple with a bolt-on joint, topped by a Resinator™ fretboard carrying 6mm pearl dot position markers, a 15" radius, and 22 medium-jumbo frets. The H-Expander™ truss rod runs through the neck. Nut width is 43mm, supplied as a Graph Tech Black TUSQ XL unit. Scale length is 25.5" (648mm). Two C-Spin single-coil pickups feed a 3-way toggle switch, with individual volume and tone controls. The bridge is a Long Travel Tune-O-Matic paired with a traditional stop tailpiece. Tuning is handled by Hagstrom 15:1 die-cast machines. The instrument shipped strung with a .010–.046 set. A C-50 case and E-20 Hag Bag were listed as compatible carrying options.
Owners needing setup work, fret service, or help sourcing compatible replacement parts for the Tune-O-Matic bridge, TUSQ nut, or Graph Tech-ecosystem components should consult a qualified guitar technician.
STRAIGHT TALK
What Stands Out
Keep In Mind
From the people who own them
Nothing in The Vault is for sale. These records exist so the instruments stay documented after the manufacturer moves on — and the most useful part of that record is what owners add to it.
Owner photos
Put yours on the record.
The catalog shot showed one finish, under one light, a long time ago. Yours has been played. Photos from owners are what the next person finds when they are trying to identify a part, match a finish, or work out whether the one they just bought is really what the seller said it was.
What do you know about this one?
Specs only go so far. What actually fits, what breaks first, what the factory got right and what everyone ends up changing — that lives with the people who own them, not in a datasheet. Post what you know and it stays on this page for whoever comes looking next.
