Hagstrom built the Alvar as a semi-hollow electric guitar, positioning it within their line as an instrument drawing on the character of the Norse mythological figure after whom it was named. The ALV-BLK-U is finished in Black Gloss.
The Alvar is constructed with a contoured top and a set neck joint. The neck carries Hagstrom's H-Expander™ truss rod system and a 15" radius Resinator™ fingerboard fitted with 22 medium jumbo frets, pearloid block inlays, and a 43 mm GraphTech Black Tusq XL nut. A 24.75" scale length governs string tension. Two Hagstrom HJ-50 AlNiCo-5 humbuckers with chrome-plated covers are selected via a 3-way toggle switch, with independent volume and tone controls for each pickup incorporating an R/C circuit. The bridge is a long-travel tune-o-matic paired with a Hagstrom trapeze tailpiece; tuning is handled by Hagstrom-design 18:1 ratio keys. The guitar ships strung with D'Addario 10-46s. Compatible case and bag options are the C54 and E24 respectively.
Owners seeking setup adjustments, hardware replacements, or compatible parts for the tune-o-matic bridge, trapeze tailpiece, or nut should consult a qualified guitar technician or luthier.
STRAIGHT TALK
What Stands Out
Keep In Mind
From the people who own them
Nothing in The Vault is for sale. These records exist so the instruments stay documented after the manufacturer moves on — and the most useful part of that record is what owners add to it.
Owner photos
Put yours on the record.
The catalog shot showed one finish, under one light, a long time ago. Yours has been played. Photos from owners are what the next person finds when they are trying to identify a part, match a finish, or work out whether the one they just bought is really what the seller said it was.
What do you know about this one?
Specs only go so far. What actually fits, what breaks first, what the factory got right and what everyone ends up changing — that lives with the people who own them, not in a datasheet. Post what you know and it stays on this page for whoever comes looking next.
