Hagstrom built the Fantomen Custom as an elevated entry in the Fantomen line, which the company introduced in 2016 in collaboration with the Swedish band Ghost. The model carried a single-cutaway asymmetrical body constructed from mahogany using a wing construction method, finished in White Gloss with multi-ply binding. A through-body, three-piece Hard Canadian Maple neck with a slim "D" profile and reinforced headstock with volute ran the full length of the instrument, anchored by Hagstrom's proprietary H-Expander™ truss rod system.
The ebony fingerboard sits at a 25.5" (648 mm) scale length and carries 22 stainless steel medium-jumbo frets on a 15" radius, with pearloid block inlays and glow-in-the-dark side dot inlays. A Graph Tech Black Tusq XL nut at 43 mm width feeds into GraphTech Ratio tuners. Pickups are a Lundgren Design AlNiCo-2 No. 2 humbucker at the neck and a Lundgren Design AlNiCo-5 No. 5 humbucker at the bridge, selected by a 3-way toggle switch. The control layout provides two volume controls with R/C circuit and two tone controls with push-pull coil-split functionality. The hardware suite — finished in ruthenium — comprises a Schaller STM Tune-O-Matic bridge, stop tailpiece, and Schaller strap lock system. The guitar ships strung with D'Addario 10-46 strings.
