Description

Hagstrom built the Fantomen Custom as an elevated entry in its Fantomen line, a series that originated from a collaboration with the Swedish band Ghost. The Fantomen Custom occupied a specialist position within the range, distinguished by its asymmetrical single-cutaway mahogany wing construction, neck-through architecture, and a suite of premium components selected for tonal range and long-term reliability.

The neck runs through the body in a three-piece hard Canadian Maple construction with a slim "D" profile, topped by an ebony fingerboard at a 25.5" (648mm) scale length. Twenty-two stainless steel medium jumbo frets sit at a 15" radius, with a Graph Tech Black Tusq XL nut at 43mm width. Pearloid block inlays are complemented by glow-in-the-dark side dots. The H-Expander™ truss rod and reinforced headstock with volute address long-term neck stability. Pickups are a Lundgren Design AlNiCo-2 No. 2 humbucker at the neck and a Lundgren Design AlNiCo-5 No. 5 humbucker at the bridge, selected via a 3-way toggle switch. The control layout — two volume controls with R/C circuit and two tone controls with push-pull coil split — provides a broad range of voices from full humbucker to split single-coil output. Hardware is chrome throughout, including a Schaller STM Tune-O-Matic bridge, stop tailpiece, and Schaller strap lock system. GraphTech Ratio tuners handle intonation at the headstock, and the guitar shipped strung with D'Addario 10-46s. Multi-ply binding runs the body perimeter. The finish on this variant is Black Gloss.

Owners sourcing replacement parts — including the Schaller STM bridge saddles, Graph Tech Tusq XL nut blanks, or Lundgren pickup mounting hardware — should consult a qualified guitar technician to confirm compatibility with the neck-through construction and specific component dimensions before installation.

The owner archive

From the people who own them

Nothing in The Vault is for sale. These records exist so the instruments stay documented after the manufacturer moves on — and the most useful part of that record is what owners add to it.

Put yours on the record.

The catalog shot showed one finish, under one light, a long time ago. Yours has been played. Photos from owners are what the next person finds when they are trying to identify a part, match a finish, or work out whether the one they just bought is really what the seller said it was.

What do you know about this one?

Specs only go so far. What actually fits, what breaks first, what the factory got right and what everyone ends up changing — that lives with the people who own them, not in a datasheet. Post what you know and it stays on this page for whoever comes looking next.
