DigiTech produced the Whammy Ricochet as a compact, treadle-free pitch-shifting pedal within its Whammy line. It was positioned for players who wanted the characteristic Whammy pitch-shift effect in a standard stomp-box footprint, operated by a momentary footswitch rather than an expression pedal.
The Ricochet offered seven pitch intervals — 2nd, 4th, 5th, 7th, Octave, Double Octave, and Octave+Dry — each selectable in an upward or downward direction via a toggle. A Ballistics Control provided independent adjustment of the rise and fall times between the dry and shifted pitch, allowing gradual or abrupt transitions. The pedal supported both momentary and latching footswitch modes: in momentary mode the pitch shifted only while the switch was held; in latching mode the effect held at the target pitch until released. An LED ladder displayed the shift trajectory in real time. Audio ran through a 24-bit A/D/A converter at 44.1 kHz in classic mode and 22 kHz in chords mode, with true bypass available when the Momentary switch was off. A 1/4" unbalanced input and output accommodated standard instrument cables, and the unit required an external 9 VDC adapter.
