DigiTech produced the WHAMMY-U as part of its long-running Whammy series, positioning it as a dedicated pitch-shifting expression pedal for electric guitar. The unit offered both single-note and chordal Whammy pitch-shifting modes alongside true bypass switching, and accepted MIDI control via a 5-pin DIN input.
The WHAMMY-U ran on a 9 VDC external adapter drawing under 265 mA, with a power consumption of 2.4 watts. Signal conversion was handled at 24-bit depth on both the A/D and D/A stages, at a 44.1 kHz sample rate, with a frequency response of 20 Hz to 20 kHz.
