Description

DigiTech produced the DOD Compressor 280 (2014) as a reissue of the original DOD 280 compressor pedal, updated for modern pedalboard use. The unit was designed to manage the dynamic range of an instrument's input signal, evening out volume differences between single notes and chords and extending note sustain.

The Compressor 280 employed an electro-optical circuit — pairing a light-dependent resistor with an internal LED — to vary the degree of dynamic compression. Two controls were provided: a Comp knob and an Output knob. At lower Comp settings the pedal applied subtle volume leveling, raising quieter signals and limiting peaks from harder-picked passages. At higher Comp settings it produced a more pronounced squash on the initial attack while raising the level of notes as they decayed. The Output knob governed the overall level of the effected signal and was capable of delivering a volume boost above unity. Relative to the original DOD 280, the 2014 version added true bypass switching — keeping the instrument signal unaltered when the effect was disengaged — and a 9V DC power supply input in place of the original's bypass-coloring circuit. The chassis is all-metal construction. Power is supplied by a 9V alkaline dry battery or a PS0913DC power supply.

For setup guidance, adjustment of internal trimmers if present, or integration questions, consult a qualified guitar technician.

From the people who own them

Nothing in The Vault is for sale. These records exist so the instruments stay documented after the manufacturer moves on — and the most useful part of that record is what owners add to it.

Put yours on the record.

The catalog shot showed one finish, under one light, a long time ago. Yours has been played. Photos from owners are what the next person finds when they are trying to identify a part, match a finish, or work out whether the one they just bought is really what the seller said it was.

What do you know about this one?

Specs only go so far. What actually fits, what breaks first, what the factory got right and what everyone ends up changing — that lives with the people who own them, not in a datasheet. Post what you know and it stays on this page for whoever comes looking next.
