DigiTech positioned the MOSAIC-U as a polyphonic 12-string effect pedal, designed to process the signal from a 6-string electric or amplified acoustic guitar and produce synthesised 12-string tones. It sat in DigiTech's effects line as a dedicated, single-purpose unit rather than a multi-effect device.
The pedal achieved its effect by adding octave-down voices to the low strings and doubled voices to the high strings, producing the characteristic polyphonic texture associated with 12-string instruments. Two controls — Level and Tone — allowed the owner to set the intensity of the effect and shape overall brightness independently. The unit was true bypass and drew power from a 9V DC supply. Its compact enclosure measured 4.75" × 2.875" × 1.75" and weighed 0.36 lbs., suited to integration into an existing pedalboard. Audio conversion ran at 24-bit / 44.1 kHz with a frequency response of 20 Hz–11 kHz when the effect was engaged.
