Cort built the MR500E-OP as part of its MR Series, a line positioned around traditional acoustic construction combined with on-board electronics. The dreadnought cutaway body featured a Venetian cutaway to allow access to the upper register, and the CE304T preamp system was fitted to route the instrument's acoustic character to an amplification or recording signal chain.
The top was solid spruce, braced with Advanced Scalloped X-Bracing, and joined to back and sides of African Mahogany (Okoume) via a dovetail neck joint. The neck itself was Mahogany (Palaquium), fitted with an Ovangkol fretboard and bridge, dot inlays, and an Acryl Pearl top purfling and rosette. The 43mm nut width and 643mm (25.3") scale length defined the playing geometry across 20 frets. Electronics comprised a ceramic pickup feeding the Cort CE304T preamp. The instrument shipped strung with D'Addario EXP16 strings.
