Cort built the A4-Ultra-Ash as part of its Artisan Series, positioning it as a neck-through bass aimed at players demanding extended tonal range and refined construction. The pairing of a mahogany body with a sand-blasted ash top was central to the design: the mahogany contributed warm, full low-end character while the ash added clarity and brightness in the upper register, with the sand-blasted grain left visible as a natural aesthetic feature.
The neck runs through the body in five pieces of maple and panga panga, joining a panga panga fretboard with a 15.75" (400mm) radius across 24 frets on a 34" (864mm) scale. Hardware is finished in black throughout, with Hipshot Ultralite machineheads at the headstock and a Hipshot TransTone bridge at the other end. Fishman Fluence Bass Soapbar pickups feed a control layout of one volume with push-pull, one blend, a two-band EQ, and a three-way voice control toggle switch — providing multiple pickup voicings from a single set of pickups. The instrument shipped strung with D'Addario YB-XL165 strings.
Owners sourcing replacement parts should note that the Hipshot TransTone bridge and Ultralite machineheads remain independently available hardware lines, and Fishman Fluence Bass Soapbar pickups are a documented series — a qualified guitar technician or luthier can cross-reference current Hipshot and Fishman part numbers against this instrument's configuration when replacements or adjustments are needed.

What Stands Out
Keep In Mind
From the people who own them
Nothing in The Vault is for sale. These records exist so the instruments stay documented after the manufacturer moves on — and the most useful part of that record is what owners add to it.
Owner photos
Put yours on the record.
The catalog shot showed one finish, under one light, a long time ago. Yours has been played. Photos from owners are what the next person finds when they are trying to identify a part, match a finish, or work out whether the one they just bought is really what the seller said it was.
What do you know about this one?
Specs only go so far. What actually fits, what breaks first, what the factory got right and what everyone ends up changing — that lives with the people who own them, not in a datasheet. Post what you know and it stays on this page for whoever comes looking next.
