Description

Ampeg positioned the SVT-VR-U as a vintage reissue of an early 1970s "Blue-Line" SVT head, placing it within the Classic series of all-tube bass amplifier heads. The model was designed to replicate the signal path, tone, and switching configuration of that original platform, including its rocker-switch topology.

The SVT-VR-U delivered 300 watts RMS into 4 ohms through a power section built around six 6550 output tubes. The preamp stage used three 12AX7 and two 12AU7 tubes, with driver duties handled by one 12AX7 and two additional 12AU7 tubes. Tone shaping ran through Bass, Mid, and Treble controls, with the Mid governed by a 3-position rocker switch and supplemented by Ultra Low and Ultra High boost options. Speaker outputs were provided via Neutrik Speakon and 1/4-inch jacks. A transformer-balanced line out and separate preamp out/power amp in jacks rounded out the connectivity. The unit measured 24 × 11.5 × 12.75 inches and weighed 85 pounds.

Owners requiring tube biasing, output transformer service, or speaker cabinet impedance matching should consult a qualified amplifier technician experienced with high-voltage all-tube designs.

From the people who own them

Nothing in The Vault is for sale. These records exist so the instruments stay documented after the manufacturer moves on — and the most useful part of that record is what owners add to it.

Put yours on the record.

The catalog shot showed one finish, under one light, a long time ago. Yours has been played. Photos from owners are what the next person finds when they are trying to identify a part, match a finish, or work out whether the one they just bought is really what the seller said it was.

What do you know about this one?

Specs only go so far. What actually fits, what breaks first, what the factory got right and what everyone ends up changing — that lives with the people who own them, not in a datasheet. Post what you know and it stays on this page for whoever comes looking next.
