Ampeg produced the HSVT50TH-U Heritage 50th Anniversary SVT as a commemorative all-tube bass amplifier head, positioned as a tribute to the original SVT that debuted in 1969. The unit sat at the top of the Heritage line, intended to consolidate the most celebrated circuits from the SVT's history into a single head while incorporating modern features alongside period-correct aesthetics. Ampeg described the design as drawing on two distinct SVT eras: Channel One was voiced after the original 1969 "Blue Line" SVT, and Channel Two was voiced after the Magnavox-era SVT; both channels are jumpable.
The amplifier is fully tube-driven throughout. The preamp section runs five JJ 12AX7 tubes, supplemented by a driver stage using one JJ 12AX7 and two JJ 12AU7 tubes. The power section employs six Ampeg Super Valve 6550 output tubes, delivering a rated minimum continuous output of 300W RMS at less than 5% THD into 2 or 4 ohm loads. Tone-shaping on each channel includes Bass (±12 dB at 40 Hz), a five-position Midrange (±10/–20 dB switchable among 220 Hz, 450 Hz, 800 Hz, 1.6 kHz, and 3 kHz), and Treble (+15/–20 dB at 4 kHz), with Ultra Lo and Ultra Hi switches providing additional voicing options. Signal-to-noise ratio is rated at 75 dB across the 20 Hz–20 kHz bandwidth, and maximum gain is 78 dB at 1 kHz. The unit accepts domestic mains of 100–120 VAC and export mains of 200–240 VAC at 50–60 Hz. Dimensions are 11.5 × 24.0 × 12.75 inches (with feet), and the head weighs approximately 85 lb.
