Description

Ampeg produced the MICRO-VR-U as a compact solid-state bass amplifier head within its classic-styled lineup, positioning it as a portable yet capable unit suited to both live performance and recording environments. The head was paired and sold with the SVT210AV cabinet, which Ampeg built around its Infinite Baffle system — a design intended to maximise speaker efficiency in an enclosure smaller than the full-sized SVT810AV.

The MICRO-VR-U head runs a solid-state preamp and MOSFET power amp section, delivering 200 watts RMS into 4 ohms. Tone shaping is handled by a 3-band EQ that includes an Ultra Mid control. A balanced line out is fitted, making the unit usable direct to a recording desk or PA system. The SVT210AV cabinet houses two 10-inch Eminence speakers, handles 200 watts RMS at 8 ohms, and presents a nominal impedance of 8 ohms mono. The cabinet's frequency response is specified at 58 Hz–5 kHz (–3 dB), with usable low-frequency extension to 40 Hz (–10 dB). The cabinet weighs 25.9 pounds and measures 13 × 24 × 11 inches.

Owners sourcing replacement Eminence 10-inch drivers, cabinet hardware, or head components should consult a qualified guitar or bass technician to confirm compatibility with the Infinite Baffle loading and the 8-ohm nominal impedance before fitting any substitutes.

From the people who own them

Nothing in The Vault is for sale. These records exist so the instruments stay documented after the manufacturer moves on — and the most useful part of that record is what owners add to it.

Put yours on the record.

The catalog shot showed one finish, under one light, a long time ago. Yours has been played. Photos from owners are what the next person finds when they are trying to identify a part, match a finish, or work out whether the one they just bought is really what the seller said it was.

What do you know about this one?

Specs only go so far. What actually fits, what breaks first, what the factory got right and what everyone ends up changing — that lives with the people who own them, not in a datasheet. Post what you know and it stays on this page for whoever comes looking next.
