Description

Ampeg positioned the SVT-3PRO as a rackmount bass amplifier head within its SVT Pro series, designed to deliver tube-driven tone in a format suitable for rack-based rigs. The unit produced 275 watts into 8 ohms and 450 watts into 4 ohms, pairing a tube preamp section with a solid-state power amplifier stage.

The preamp ran three 12AX7 tubes, supported by a driver stage using one 12AX7 and one 12AU7. Tone shaping centred on a 3-band EQ with a 5-position midrange frequency selector — offering centre frequencies of 220 Hz, 450 Hz, 800 Hz, 1.6 kHz and 3 kHz — alongside a 9-band graphic EQ and Ultra Low and Ultra High boost switches. The graphic EQ carried a footswitch function, allowing it to be engaged independently as a secondary EQ configuration during performance. A balanced line output offered pre- or post-EQ signal selection, a ground lift and level control. Additional connectivity included an effects loop and separate preamp output and power amp input jacks. The unit occupied a standard 2U rackmount footprint, measured 19 × 3.5 × 15.5 inches, and weighed 26 pounds.

For tube replacement, impedance matching, or signal-chain troubleshooting, a qualified guitar or bass amplifier technician will be best placed to advise on compatible components and correct operating procedure for this unit.

From the people who own them

Nothing in The Vault is for sale. These records exist so the instruments stay documented after the manufacturer moves on — and the most useful part of that record is what owners add to it.

Put yours on the record.

The catalog shot showed one finish, under one light, a long time ago. Yours has been played. Photos from owners are what the next person finds when they are trying to identify a part, match a finish, or work out whether the one they just bought is really what the seller said it was.

What do you know about this one?

Specs only go so far. What actually fits, what breaks first, what the factory got right and what everyone ends up changing — that lives with the people who own them, not in a datasheet. Post what you know and it stays on this page for whoever comes looking next.
