The sustain block bolts to the underside of the base plate and anchors the springs that return the bridge to pitch. When a block cracks, strips its screw holes, or has been swapped out for the wrong length, the bridge stops behaving. This is the Floyd Rose Speedloader-series block in 40mm, made from nickel-plated brass.
Fit is decided by two things: block length and screw pattern. The 40mm measurement has to clear your body cavity — too long and the block bottoms out before the bridge completes a dive; too short and the springs sit at the wrong angle and pull is inconsistent. The screw pattern must match your Speedloader base plate. Measure your cavity depth and check your existing block's hole spacing before ordering. The Speedloader series uses a different string-loading mechanism than a standard Floyd Rose, so this block is not interchangeable with non-Speedloader base plates.
The block is nickel-plated brass. Brass transfers attack differently than the zinc alloy blocks found on some production units — the onset is slightly rounder and sustain tends to be longer, though neither of those things affects whether the block fits your guitar.
If you are not certain this is the right block for your setup, send us the make, model, and year of your guitar and we will confirm before you order.
