Ibanez produced the AS63LMY as part of the AS Series, positioning it as a hollow body electric guitar within the Artcore family. The model carried a Lemon Yellow finish and was built around an AS Artcore neck profile fashioned from Nyatoh, joined to the body via a set-in construction.
The body employed Sapele for the top, back, and sides. A bound Walnut fretboard with white dot inlays ran 22 medium frets across a 628 mm (24.7") scale, with a nut width of 43 mm and a fretboard radius of 305 mm R. Neck dimensions measured 21 mm in thickness at the first fret and 24 mm at the ninth. Body depth reached a maximum of 2 5/8". Electronics consisted of a pair of passive, ceramic Infinity R humbuckers — one at the neck, one at the bridge — wired through chrome hardware. The Gibraltar Performer bridge and Quik Change III tailpiece handled intonation and string anchoring respectively, with a string spacing of 10.5 mm at the bridge. The guitar left the factory strung with a .010–.052 gauge set in standard E tuning.
