Ibanez positioned the RGA42FMTGF within the RGA Series, a line built around an extended upper horn and deeper cutaway geometry designed to improve high-fret access. The model carried a flamed maple top over a meranti body, paired with a Wizard III maple neck — the slim, fast profile Ibanez developed as a signature of the RG family — and a 24-fret jatoba fretboard with off-set white dot inlays.
The neck measured 43mm at the nut and 58mm at the 24th fret, with a thickness of 19mm at the first fret tapering to 21mm at the twelfth, across a 400mm radius. Scale length ran 648mm (25.5"). Jumbo frets were fitted throughout. Hardware was finished in black, centred on an F106 bridge with 10.5mm string spacing. Pickup duties were handled by a pair of passive, ceramic-magnet Quantum humbuckers — one at the neck, one at the bridge. The guitar left the factory strung with D'Addario EXL110s (.010–.046) in standard E tuning.
Owners sourcing replacement parts should note that the F106 bridge accepts strings at 10.5mm spacing, and the Wizard III neck profile is specific to Ibanez's own dimensions — a qualified luthier or guitar technician familiar with Ibanez hardware will be best placed to advise on compatible bridge saddles, nut blanks cut to 43mm, or fret wire matching the original jumbo specification.
