Ibanez built the RGA42FMDEF as part of the RGA Series, positioning it as a fixed-bridge, high-output electric guitar finished in Dragon Eye Burst Flat. The RGA line was designed around an aggressive, extended-range-style aesthetic with a Wizard III maple neck profile — a thin, fast neck construction that Ibanez developed for players prioritising speed and low-action playability.
The guitar is constructed with a Meranti body and a flamed maple top, with the Dragon Eye Burst Flat finish applied over that figured surface. The Jatoba fretboard carries 24 jumbo frets with off-set white dot inlays, a 400mm radius, and a nut width of 43mm, tapering to 58mm at the 24th fret. Neck thickness measures 19mm at the first fret and 21mm at the twelfth. The 648mm (25.5-inch) scale feeds into an F106 fixed bridge set at 10.5mm string spacing. Both pickup positions are loaded with passive ceramic Quantum humbuckers, and all hardware is finished in black. The guitar shipped strung with D'Addario EXL110s (.010–.046) in standard E tuning.
