Ibanez built the EHB1505DEF as part of the EHB Workshop Series, a line of ergonomic headless basses positioned toward players seeking a lightweight, balanced instrument with high-specification hardware and electronics. The five-string configuration and 34-inch scale placed it in the upper tier of the Workshop Series offering.
The body paired a Poplar Burl top with a selected lightweight African Mahogany body, while the nine-piece Pangapanga/Walnut neck incorporated graphite reinforcement rods for added stability. The bound Panga Panga fretboard carried abalone offset dot inlays and 24 medium Stainless Steel frets across an 18mm string spacing at the MR5HS bridge. Nut width measures 45mm, widening to 74mm at the 24th fret, with neck thickness running 19.5mm at the first fret and 21.5mm at the twelfth, on a 500mm radius board. Electronics consisted of a passive Nordstrand Custom Big Split pickup at both neck and bridge positions, fed into a Vari-mid 3-band EQ with an EQ bypass switch; the treble pot doubled as a passive tone control when the bypass was engaged. Hardware throughout was finished in black. The instrument shipped strung with D'Addario EXL165 plus a .130 B string in standard five-string tuning (B–E–A–D–G, low to high).
Owners tracing replacement parts — particularly the MR5HS headless bridge hardware, Nordstrand Custom Big Split pickups, or Stainless Steel fret stock — should note the specific string spacing, fret size, and neck dimensions listed above when sourcing components. A qualified luthier or bass technician familiar with headless bridge systems is best placed to advise on setup and any hardware substitutions.
STRAIGHT TALK
What Stands Out
Keep In Mind
From the people who own them
Nothing in The Vault is for sale. These records exist so the instruments stay documented after the manufacturer moves on — and the most useful part of that record is what owners add to it.
Owner photos
Put yours on the record.
The catalog shot showed one finish, under one light, a long time ago. Yours has been played. Photos from owners are what the next person finds when they are trying to identify a part, match a finish, or work out whether the one they just bought is really what the seller said it was.
What do you know about this one?
Specs only go so far. What actually fits, what breaks first, what the factory got right and what everyone ends up changing — that lives with the people who own them, not in a datasheet. Post what you know and it stays on this page for whoever comes looking next.
