Ibanez produced the RG550RF as part of the RG Genesis Collection, a series designed to revisit the foundational hardware and construction choices that defined the original RG line. The RG550RF occupied the Genesis Collection as a direct callback to the specification set that established the RG format, finished in Road Flare Red.
The guitar was built on a basswood body with a Super Wizard five-piece maple and walnut neck, a combination Ibanez used to prioritise low mass and fast response across the neck profile. The maple fretboard carries black dot inlays and jumbo frets over a 430mm radius, with a 648mm (25.5") scale length. Nut width measures 43mm, widening to 58mm at the 24th fret, with a first-fret thickness of 17mm tapering to 19mm at the 12th. The Edge tremolo bridge is spaced at 10.8mm and all hardware is finished in black. The pickup complement runs a V7 ceramic humbucker at the neck, a passive alnico S1 single-coil in the middle position, and a V8 alnico humbucker at the bridge.
Owners requiring setup adjustments, tremolo calibration, or replacement parts compatible with the Edge tremolo system or the V7/S1/V8 pickup configuration should consult a qualified guitar technician or luthier familiar with Ibanez double-locking tremolo systems.
STRAIGHT TALK
What Stands Out
Keep In Mind
From the people who own them
Nothing in The Vault is for sale. These records exist so the instruments stay documented after the manufacturer moves on — and the most useful part of that record is what owners add to it.
Owner photos
Put yours on the record.
The catalog shot showed one finish, under one light, a long time ago. Yours has been played. Photos from owners are what the next person finds when they are trying to identify a part, match a finish, or work out whether the one they just bought is really what the seller said it was.
What do you know about this one?
Specs only go so far. What actually fits, what breaks first, what the factory got right and what everyone ends up changing — that lives with the people who own them, not in a datasheet. Post what you know and it stays on this page for whoever comes looking next.
