Ibanez built the RG470MSPTSP as part of the RG Series, positioning it as a high-output, double-locking tremolo instrument within a long-running line designed around fast playability and versatile pickup configurations. The model carried a Turquoise Sparkle finish and was equipped with a three-pickup HSH arrangement driven by Quantum pickups.
The guitar was constructed with a Meranti body and a Maple neck of the Wizard III profile — a slim, fast-feeling contour. The Maple fretboard carried 24 jumbo frets with black dot inlays, a locking nut, and a 400mm radius. The scale length ran 648mm (25.5"). Neck width measured 43mm at the nut and 58mm at the 24th fret; thickness was 19mm at the first fret and 21mm at the 12th. The double locking tremolo bridge used 10.5mm string spacing. Hardware throughout was finished in Cosmo black. The HSH pickup layout placed a Quantum humbucker (passive, ceramic) at the neck, a Quantum single-coil (passive, Alnico) in the middle position, and a Quantum humbucker (passive, ceramic) at the bridge. The guitar left the factory strung with D'Addario EXL120s (.009–.042) in standard E tuning.
