Ibanez produced the RG421MSPTSP as part of the RG Series, positioning it as a solidbody electric built around the fast, slim profile the RG line was known for. The model carried a Turquoise Sparkle finish and was equipped with a Meranti body paired with a Wizard III Maple neck and a Maple fretboard with black dot inlays.
The guitar featured 24 jumbo frets on a fretboard with a 400mm radius, a 648mm (25.5") scale length, and a nut width of 43mm tapering to 58mm at the 24th fret. Neck thickness measured 19mm at the first fret and 21mm at the twelfth. The F106 bridge was set to a 10.5mm string spacing. Two passive, ceramic-magnet Quantum humbuckers handled pickup duties at the neck and bridge positions. Hardware throughout was finished in Cosmo black. The guitar left the factory strung with D'Addario EXL110s (.010–.046) in standard E tuning.
