Ibanez built the JBM27 as part of its JBM Signature Series, positioning the model as a seven-string instrument within that line. It carried a Silver finish and was equipped for extended-range playing, shipped from the factory in Drop G# tuning.
The guitar was constructed with a Nyatoh body and a Maple top, paired with a three-piece Maple Wizard II-7 neck. The bound Jatoba fretboard featured jumbo frets and a JBM special inlay at the 12th fret. The 26.5" scale — 673.5mm — suited the low factory tuning, and the nut measured 48mm wide. Neck thickness measured 19mm at the first fret and 21mm at the twelfth, with a 400mm radius across the board. Electronics consisted of DiMarzio Titan humbuckers at both neck and bridge positions, passive and ceramic, with string spacing of 10.8mm at the bridge. Tremolo duties were handled by an Edge-Zero II-7 bridge, and all hardware was finished in black. The factory string set ran .011/.014/.018/.030/.042/.052/.064.
