Ibanez positioned the AX120CM within its AX Series as a solidbody electric built around an accessible, player-focused platform. The AX Series was designed to offer a straightforward hardtail-style feel with a familiar humbucker configuration, and the AX120CM represented the line's entry into that format with a basswood body and maple neck.
The neck carries a jatoba fretboard with white block inlays and 22 medium frets across a 305mm radius. The nut width measures 43mm, tapering to 56mm at the 22nd fret, with a neck thickness of 20mm at the first fret and 22mm at the twelfth. Scale length is 628mm (24.7"). Two Classic Elite humbuckers — passive, ceramic-loaded — occupy the neck and bridge positions, and hardware throughout is finished in chrome. String spacing at the bridge is 10.5mm, routed through a Quik Change III tailpiece and anchored at a Gibraltar Performer bridge. The guitar left the factory strung to standard E-to-E tuning with a .010–.046 gauge set.
Owners sourcing replacement parts — bridge saddles, tailpiece components, tuning machines or pickup covers — should verify fit against the Gibraltar Performer and Quik Change III specifications before ordering, and consult a qualified guitar technician for any setup or wiring work.
STRAIGHT TALK
What Stands Out
Keep In Mind
From the people who own them
Nothing in The Vault is for sale. These records exist so the instruments stay documented after the manufacturer moves on — and the most useful part of that record is what owners add to it.
Owner photos
Put yours on the record.
The catalog shot showed one finish, under one light, a long time ago. Yours has been played. Photos from owners are what the next person finds when they are trying to identify a part, match a finish, or work out whether the one they just bought is really what the seller said it was.
What do you know about this one?
Specs only go so far. What actually fits, what breaks first, what the factory got right and what everyone ends up changing — that lives with the people who own them, not in a datasheet. Post what you know and it stays on this page for whoever comes looking next.
