Ibanez built the AX120BEM as part of the AX Series, a line designed around a solid-body electric format with a shorter-than-standard aesthetic profile. The Baltic Blue Metallic finish placed it toward the visually distinctive end of the AX range.
The guitar was constructed with a basswood body and a maple neck bearing a jatoba fretboard with white block inlays. Twenty-two medium frets sit along a 305mm radius board, with a nut width of 43mm widening to 56mm at the 22nd fret. Neck thickness measures 20mm at the first fret and 22mm at the twelfth. The 628mm (24.7") scale feeds into a Gibraltar Performer bridge with 10.5mm string spacing, anchored by a Quik Change III tailpiece. Both pickup positions carry Classic Elite humbucker pickups wound on ceramic magnets in a passive circuit, and all hardware is finished in chrome. The instrument left the factory strung with a .010–.046 set tuned to standard pitch.
Owners seeking replacement parts — including compatible bridge saddles, tailpiece studs, or pickup rings suited to the Gibraltar Performer and Quik Change III hardware — should consult a qualified guitar technician or luthier who can verify fit against the original components.
STRAIGHT TALK
What Stands Out
Keep In Mind
From the people who own them
Nothing in The Vault is for sale. These records exist so the instruments stay documented after the manufacturer moves on — and the most useful part of that record is what owners add to it.
Owner photos
Put yours on the record.
The catalog shot showed one finish, under one light, a long time ago. Yours has been played. Photos from owners are what the next person finds when they are trying to identify a part, match a finish, or work out whether the one they just bought is really what the seller said it was.
What do you know about this one?
Specs only go so far. What actually fits, what breaks first, what the factory got right and what everyone ends up changing — that lives with the people who own them, not in a datasheet. Post what you know and it stays on this page for whoever comes looking next.
