Ibanez built the SRF705BBF as part of the SR Workshop Series, positioning it as a fretless five-string bass within a line oriented toward players seeking specialist tonewoods and active electronics. The neck-through construction and Workshop Series designation placed it above the standard SR production models.
The bass was built around a five-piece Maple and Walnut neck-through design with an Okoume wing body. The bound Panga Panga fretboard is fretless, with a 305mm radius, a nut width of 45mm, and a width of 68mm at the 24th fret position; neck thickness measures 21.5mm at the first fret and 23.5mm at the twelfth. Scale length is 864mm (34 inches). Electronics pair two passive Bartolini MK-1 pickups — one at the neck, one at the bridge — with an Ibanez 2-band EQ incorporating a Piezo active tone control routed through a custom AeroSilk Piezo system bridge. String spacing at the bridge is 16.5mm. Hardware throughout is finished in Cosmo black. The instrument shipped strung with D'Addario ECB81-5 Flatwound strings gauged .045/.065/.080/.100/.132, tuned B through G.
Owners seeking replacement flatwound strings, Bartolini MK-1 pickup substitutes, or AeroSilk Piezo bridge components should verify measurements against their specific instrument before ordering; a qualified luthier or bass technician can assist with setup, nut work, and electronics servicing on fretless instruments of this configuration.
STRAIGHT TALK
What Stands Out
Keep In Mind
From the people who own them
Nothing in The Vault is for sale. These records exist so the instruments stay documented after the manufacturer moves on — and the most useful part of that record is what owners add to it.
Owner photos
Put yours on the record.
The catalog shot showed one finish, under one light, a long time ago. Yours has been played. Photos from owners are what the next person finds when they are trying to identify a part, match a finish, or work out whether the one they just bought is really what the seller said it was.
What do you know about this one?
Specs only go so far. What actually fits, what breaks first, what the factory got right and what everyone ends up changing — that lives with the people who own them, not in a datasheet. Post what you know and it stays on this page for whoever comes looking next.
