Ibanez built the SRF700BBF as part of the SR Workshop Series, positioning it as a fretless electric bass with a neck-through construction and an integrated piezo pickup system. The SR Workshop line represented Ibanez's approach to combining refined tonewoods with active electronics tailored to fretless playing.
The instrument is built around a five-piece Maple and Walnut neck-through design with Okoume wing body construction. The bound Panga Panga fretboard is fretless, and the neck dimensions run 38mm at the nut, widening to 62mm at the 24th position, with a 305mm radius and thickness of 21.5mm at the first position and 23.5mm at the twelfth. The 34-inch scale (864mm) is served by a custom bridge housing the AeroSilk Piezo system, with 19mm string spacing. Passive Bartolini MK-1 pickups occupy both neck and bridge positions, feeding into an Ibanez 2-band EQ with a dedicated piezo active tone control. The instrument shipped strung with D'Addario ECB81 Flatwound strings gauged .045/.065/.080/.100, tuned standard E to G. All hardware is finished in cosmo black.
Owners requiring setup work, fretless fingerboard maintenance, or assistance identifying compatible replacement strings, bridge components, or pickup parts should consult a qualified luthier or experienced bass technician familiar with piezo-equipped fretless instruments.
STRAIGHT TALK
What Stands Out
Keep In Mind
From the people who own them
Nothing in The Vault is for sale. These records exist so the instruments stay documented after the manufacturer moves on — and the most useful part of that record is what owners add to it.
Owner photos
Put yours on the record.
The catalog shot showed one finish, under one light, a long time ago. Yours has been played. Photos from owners are what the next person finds when they are trying to identify a part, match a finish, or work out whether the one they just bought is really what the seller said it was.
What do you know about this one?
Specs only go so far. What actually fits, what breaks first, what the factory got right and what everyone ends up changing — that lives with the people who own them, not in a datasheet. Post what you know and it stays on this page for whoever comes looking next.
