Ibanez built the SRMS805BTT as part of the SR Workshop Series, a sub-line positioned above the standard SR range and oriented toward players seeking extended-range instruments with premium tonewoods and multi-scale construction. The five-string bass featured a fanned-fret layout spanning a 34.0" short-side to 35.5″ long-side scale, a configuration intended to optimise string tension and intonation across the full range of a low-B tuning.
The neck was a five-piece Jatoba and Walnut laminate in the SRMS5 Multi Scale profile, joined to an Okoume body with a Poplar Burl top finished in Brown Topaz Burst. The bound Panga Panga fretboard carried 24 medium frets with acrylic special inlays, a 305mm radius, a 45mm nut width, and a 68mm width at the 24th fret. Neck thickness measured 19.5mm at the first fret and 23mm at the twelfth. Electronics consisted of a pair of passive Bartolini BH2 pickups—one at the neck, one at the bridge—routed through an Ibanez Custom Electronics 3-band EQ with an EQ bypass switch, a passive tone control on the treble pot, and a 3-way mid-frequency switch. The MR5S bridge offered 16.5mm string spacing. All hardware was finished in black. The instrument left the factory strung with D'Addario EXL170-5SL strings gauged .045/.065/.080/.100/.130 in standard B–E–A–D–G tuning.
