Ibanez built the SRMD205SPN as part of the SR Mezzo series, a line positioned around a medium 32-inch scale length — shorter than a standard long-scale bass but longer than a short-scale instrument. The five-string configuration placed it at the fuller-range end of the Mezzo lineup, aimed at players who wanted the extended low register of a five-string in a more compact-feeling instrument.
The SRMD205SPN is built on a poplar body with a maple neck and maple fretboard carrying black dot inlays. Twenty-two medium frets run along a 305mm radius board, with a nut width of 45mm widening to 73mm at the 22nd fret; neck thickness measures 19.5mm at the first fret and 21.5mm at the twelfth. The passive electronics consist of a Dynamix P neck pickup paired with a Dynamix J bridge pickup, routed through an Ibanez Custom Electronics 2-band EQ. The B15W bridge is set at 18mm string spacing, and all hardware is finished in chrome. The instrument left the factory strung with D'Addario EXL170M strings gauged .045/.065/.085/.105/.130 in B–E–A–D–G tuning.
Owners sourcing replacement parts — including bridge saddles compatible with the B15W, or pickups matching the Dynamix P/J footprints — or requiring truss rod adjustment and setup work should consult a qualified guitar technician familiar with medium-scale bass instruments.
STRAIGHT TALK
What Stands Out
Keep In Mind
From the people who own them
Nothing in The Vault is for sale. These records exist so the instruments stay documented after the manufacturer moves on — and the most useful part of that record is what owners add to it.
Owner photos
Put yours on the record.
The catalog shot showed one finish, under one light, a long time ago. Yours has been played. Photos from owners are what the next person finds when they are trying to identify a part, match a finish, or work out whether the one they just bought is really what the seller said it was.
What do you know about this one?
Specs only go so far. What actually fits, what breaks first, what the factory got right and what everyone ends up changing — that lives with the people who own them, not in a datasheet. Post what you know and it stays on this page for whoever comes looking next.
