Ibanez positioned the SR1600BCHF within the SR Premium Series, a tier of the long-running Soundgear line built to tighter tolerances and with higher-grade materials than the standard SR range. The model carried a Poplar Burl top over an African Mahogany body, finished in Caribbean Shoreline Flat.
The neck was an Atlas-4 five-piece Panga Panga and Purpleheart construction, reinforced with KTS Titanium rods and dressed with a bound Panga Panga fretboard carrying Abalone oval inlays across 24 medium frets with Premium fret edge treatment. The nut was a 38mm Graph Tech BLACK TUSQ XL unit. Scale length ran 864mm (34"). Fretboard radius was 305mm. Neck dimensions measured 19.5mm thick at the first fret and 21.5mm at the twelfth; width reached 62mm at the twenty-fourth fret. Electronics consisted of a pair of passive Nordstrand Big Single pickups — one at the neck, one at the bridge — fed into Ibanez Custom Electronics active three-band EQ with an EQ bypass switch, a passive tone control on the treble pot, and a three-way mid-frequency switch. The MR5S bridge was set at 19mm string spacing. Hardware throughout was finished in black. The bass left the factory strung with D'Addario EXL165 strings (.045/.065/.085/.105) in standard E–G tuning.
