Ibanez built the GVB1006AM as part of the GVB Signature Series, a six-string electric bass positioned within the Prestige-level tier of the Ibanez bass lineup. The instrument was designed around an extended low-B-to-high-C tuning, making it a purpose-built instrument for players requiring the full six-string bass range.
The GVB1006AM was constructed with an alder body topped with figured maple, paired with a three-piece maple and wenge neck. The rosewood fretboard carried abalone oval inlays across 24 medium frets, finished with Ibanez's Prestige fret edge treatment. Hardware was finished in cosmo black throughout, including the MR4 bridge set at a 14mm string spacing. Passive Bartolini pickups — a P45C-B at the neck and a P45C-T at the bridge — fed into an Aguilar OBP-3 preamp with a mid-frequency selector operated via push/pull pot. The nut was a Graph Tech BLACK TUSQ XL unit, cut to 53mm width. The neck measured 19mm thick at the first fret and 19.5mm at the twelfth, tapering to 72.3mm width at the twenty-fourth fret, over a 305mm radius fretboard. Scale length was 864mm (34 inches). Factory string gauges ran .030/.040/.060/.080/.100/.120, strung B to C.
Owners requiring setup work, fret dressing, or guidance on sourcing compatible six-string bass strings or Graph Tech BLACK TUSQ XL nut blanks should consult a qualified guitar technician or luthier experienced with extended-range instruments.
STRAIGHT TALK
What Stands Out
Keep In Mind
From the people who own them
Nothing in The Vault is for sale. These records exist so the instruments stay documented after the manufacturer moves on — and the most useful part of that record is what owners add to it.
Owner photos
Put yours on the record.
The catalog shot showed one finish, under one light, a long time ago. Yours has been played. Photos from owners are what the next person finds when they are trying to identify a part, match a finish, or work out whether the one they just bought is really what the seller said it was.
What do you know about this one?
Specs only go so far. What actually fits, what breaks first, what the factory got right and what everyone ends up changing — that lives with the people who own them, not in a datasheet. Post what you know and it stays on this page for whoever comes looking next.
