Ibanez built the EHB1506MSBIF as part of the EHB Workshop Series, a headless electric bass line positioned around ergonomic design and active/passive switching flexibility. The six-string configuration placed it toward the upper end of the EHB range in terms of string count.
The instrument was constructed with a Poplar Burl top over a selected lightweight African Mahogany body, paired with a nine-piece Pangapanga/Walnut neck reinforced with graphite rods — an EHB6 profile. The bound Panga Panga fretboard carried 24 medium stainless steel frets with abalone offset dot inlays, and the radius measured 950mm. Nut width ran 54mm, widening to 87mm at the 24th fret, with neck thicknesses of 19.5mm at the first fret and 21.5mm at the twelfth. The dual-scale configuration spanned 889mm to 825.5mm. Electronics consisted of two Nordstrand Custom Big Split passive pickups routed through a Vari-mid 3-band EQ with an EQ bypass switch; the treble pot doubled as a passive tone control when bypassed. The MR5HS bridge was set to a 17mm string spacing, and all hardware was finished in black. Factory tuning ran B–E–A–D–G–C low to high, and the instrument shipped strung with D'Addario EXL170-5SL stock plus a 0.032 high string, gauged .032/.045/.065/.080/.100/.130.
